Roller Bearings

Roller bearings consist of an inner and outer ring which a series of cylindrical or tapered rolling elements ride within, along the raceway grooves. They support rotating shafts and minimize friction between shafts and stationary machine components. Cylindrical roller bearings, have cylinder shaped rolling elements that create a wide contact surface with the raceway grooves to support heavy radial loads. Needle roller bearings, have long and thin cylindrical rollers that resemble needles, thus they are thinner and require less clearance. Tapered roller bearings, have tapered rollers and inner and outer ring raceways that are segments of cones to handle higher greater axial loads. Spherical roller bearings consist double rows of rollers, have an inner ring with two raceway grooves inclined at an angle to the bearing axis, and an outer ring with a common spherical raceway groove to manage misalignment and shaft deflection due to heavy shock loads. Barrel roller bearings, have a unique single row self-aligning roller arrangement which provides frictionless axial movement while accommodating misalignment. Thrust roller bearings, are designed specifically for accommodating heavy axial loads but they must not be subjected to any radial load.
